My Voice Still Matters

My Voice Still Matters

For many mornings, the crow sat quietly on his branch, listening to the forest wake around him.

He knew the rustle of leaves, the calls of distant birds, and the wind moving through the trees. Once, his own voice had been part of that morning chorus. But after calling into silence too many times, he had begun to keep it to himself.

Today, something stirred.

Golden light opened between the deep blue clouds. It reached the branch beneath his feet and warmed the dark feathers along his back. The crow lifted his head. He opened his beak, hesitated, and called.

His voice sounded rough after so much silence. He paused, listening.

The leaves continued to rustle. The sky remained wide. Then, from somewhere beyond the trees, another crow answered.

Finding Words Again

Being unheard can make us question whether to speak at all. We may rehearse a sentence in our minds, then swallow it. We may say “I’m fine” because explaining feels too tiring.

Finding our voice again can begin with someone we trust. A few honest words may be enough: “That hurt me.” “I need some help.” “This is what I hope for.”

We can also begin on paper or canvas. A line, a color, or a brushstroke can hold a feeling while we search for words. We can choose what to share, with whom, and when.

A Voice Worth Hearing

My Voice Still Matters captures the moment the crow calls again. His lifted head and open beak stand against a sky alive with blue and gold. The bare branch gives him a place to steady himself as his voice reaches outward.

He cannot know how far his call will travel. This morning, he hears it leave his own body and enter the world. Tomorrow, perhaps calling will feel a little easier.

This artwork offers a gentle invitation to anyone who has grown quiet after feeling dismissed: make space for what you want to say. Find people who will listen with care, and offer that same care when another person speaks.

Even when your voice trembles, your words deserve to be heard.
